Local label Kip&Co has teamed up with the folk that license beloved children’s author Maurice Sendak’s work to release this very covetable range of apparel and manchester.
Let the wild rumpus begin!
The range features a bunch of illustrations from Sendak’s classic book, reimagined into cosy and very comfy-looking kid’s bedroom must-haves – and must-wears!
The Where the Wild Things Are range is available right now and features quilt covers, sheets, pillowcases, cushions, playmats, clothing and more.
Pieces range from $39 to $249 and they’re premium quality – and simply gorgeous – as is always the way with Kip&Co.
Designs feature the amazing wild things monsters playing in the forest, young Max sailing away in this boat and lots of rumpus-themed dancing.
These goodies are going straight to the top of MY wishlist … for my own bed!! I named my son after this excellent character and could not love these pieces more!
A ground-breaking picture book
Maurice Sendak’s book was first released back in 1963 and had sold well over 19 million copies worldwide. It won the Caldecott Medal for children’s books in 1964.
The book became a bestseller perhaps because it was one of the first of its time to depict children as they really are – rather than pulling them into line. It really was ahead of its time and didn’t spout any moralistic themes or try to make its little hero behave.
Mary Pols of Time magazine suggests that “what makes Sendak’s book so compelling is its grounding effect: Max has a tantrum and in a flight of fancy visits his wild side, but he is pulled back by a belief in parental love to a supper ‘still hot,’ balancing the see-saw of fear and comfort.”
Where the Wild Things Are remains a classic because of this enduring theme of balancing big feelings with the craving for the comforts of mum, dad and home.
Which leads us back to these cosy quilts and things!
